A new Master’s degree is being offered at PSTGU: “Religious Aspects of Russian Culture in the 19th and Early 20th centuries”

The aim of the new program, which will be launched in September 2015, is that of fostering a deeper understanding of the role of the spiritual values and religious experience of Christianity and Orthodox in the history of Russian culture in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Our students visited the internship program at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
 From October 18th to November 3rd, Stefan Konyaev and Nadezhda Solovyova, both 4th-year students of the Theological Department, and archpriest Constantine Polskov, the vice-rector of academic affairs, visited the internship program at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
Prof. Anashkin, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Theology, takes part in the Russian-Greek Forum in Athens
 On the 26th-27th of October, 2016, the session "Models of cooperation between educational institutions in Russia and Greece" was held within the framework of the Russian-Greek inter-regional and inter-municipal forum of humanitarian cooperation in Athens. The forum was organized by Rossotrudnichestvo, the Federal agency tasked by the Russian government with supporting the framework of the Russia-Greece cross-year.
Representatives from St. Tikhon's University speak at the 16th Alexander Conference in Helsinki
Tatiana Krihtova and reader Kirill Aleksin, two faculty members from St. Tikhon´s University, spoke at the annual conference on Russian Studies in the Finnish capital. This international forum gathers researchers and experts in the social sciences, law, and economics at the University of Helsinki in autumn. The event was organized by the Aleksanteri Institute and the Centre of Excellence in Russian Studies Choices –Russian Modernisation. The theme of the year for 2016 was “Life and Death in Russia”.
A British literature expert from Scotland gives several lectures for students of the Philological Department

On the 12th of October, 2016, the Philological Department hosted lectures by Dr. John Byrom, a specialist in British literature from Scotland. He gave two lectures for the students of the Germanic Philology Department. The first lecture was devoted to the works by Wordsworth and Coleridge, two poets who stood at the origins of English and European Romanticism.

The conference “Around 1866: Leo Tolstoy and the Sixties” (the 7th Interdisciplinary Colloquium of the OSTU Intellectual Club) was held at the Yasnaya Polyana Estate-Museum.
The conference “Around 1866: Leo Tolstoy and the Sixties” (the 7th Interdisciplinary Colloquium of the OSTU Intellectual Club) was held at the Yasnaya Polyana Estate-Museum.The theme of the conference was not chosen at random, as 1866 was a year of great importance in Russian and European history. It was the year of the Great Reforms, the year of the first attempted assassination of Tsar Alexander II (the Karakazov attempt), the year of the publication of “Crime and Punishment” by F.M. Dostoyevsky, Leo Tolstoy’s continuation of work on the novel “War and Peace”, and the scientifically and socio-politically significant publication of Sechenov’s “Reflexes of the Brain”. In Europe, the year saw the Austro-Prussian “Fraternal” War, the spread of Marx’s “Capital”, the rapid development of the socialist movement, and many other events. The pivotal nature of that year is why it was decided to dedicate the recurrent conference to different aspects of the historical and cultural life of 150 years ago.
The third session of the “Russian as a Foreign Language” course began.
On the 28th of September, the third session of the “Russian as a Foreign Language” course began. The course is being attended by Vera Parolini and Marta Ferrari, two students of the Catholic University of Milan, with which St. Tikhon’s University will celebrate ten years of fruitful cooperation in 2017.
As part of the 26th Shakespeare Readings, the Faculty of Philology hosts an open lecture by Professor Ruth Morse.

As part of the 26th Shakespeare Readings, a lecture was held by Professor Ruth Morse from Paris Diderot University. Professor Morse’s lecture was titled “Before King Lear: Genealogy, history, and legitimacy of accession to the throne”.
Fr. Stephen Headley gives three lectures for students of the Philological Department
On the 5th of September, archpriest Stephen Headley gave three lectures for students of the Department of Germanic Philology. Fr. Stephen was born in the United States, graduated from St. Vladimir´s Seminary in New York and St. Sergius Institute in Paris, and he now serves at the parish of the Moscow Patriarchate in Vézelay, France.

A member of The Research Center for the History of Theology and Theological Education reader Lyutko Eugene participated in the annual conference of Ecclesiastical History Society (EHS). Within the framework of the project "The Church, Language, and Literature in the Middle Ages: Some main aspects", supported by the STOU Internal Development Fund, the regular meeting of the Medieval Seminar was held in the Department of Romance Philology.

21-24 of April at University of Zadar, Croatia, the 12th conference of International Study of Religion in Eastern and Central Europe Association (ISORECEA) took place.
On April 16th, a meeting of the Medieval Seminar was held on “Imaginary Muscovy: the Russian state and Russians in 16th Century French literature.”
Dmitry Samotovinsky, a professor of ISUCT (Ivanovo), gave a lecture on the "discovery" of the Old World, including Muscovy.

Two Italian professors give a very special lecture at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University called “The Shroud of Turin: the meeting of faith and science”. At the start of the lecture, Monsignor Giuseppe Ghiberti and Prof. Pier Luigi Baima Bollone showed the audience a special documentary about the Shroud, and then told them a number of interesting facts about the Shroud.

The course lasts three months (72 hours), and it is divided into 3 blocks: grammar (24 hours); conversation (24 hours); spelling and punctuation (24 hours). The program’s target is the development of all kind of communicative skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

 18 – 25 October in the framework of the international research project “Young Adults and Religion in a Global Perspective” (YARG) the first conference and workshop took place. Researchers from all participating countries: Finland, Sweden, USA, Canada, Peru, Ghana, India, China, Israel, Turkey, Poland and Russia — gathered together in Turku, Finland to take part.

Moscow hosts a series of lectures by Professor Marco Bersanelli of the University of Milan (Italy).
Marco Bersanelli, a well-known Italian astrophysicist, as well as a professor and the Director of the Doctoral School in Physics, Astrophysics and Applied Physics at the University of Milan, and the author of more than three hundred scientific publications, was hosted by our University from the 24th to 26th of September 2015.

On the 26th of July, 2015, the consecration of a church dedicated to St. Vladimir the Equal-to-the-Apostles was held in the main building of Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University (PSTGU), located in the historical Diocesan House of Moscow on Likhov Pereulok. The consecration of the Church of St. Vladimir was performed by His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, in celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the blessed repose of St. Vladimir.

On Sunday 26th July the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill, is going to attend the consecration of our new university Church, dedicated to St. Vladimir, the Enlightener of Rus: in 2015 the Russian Orthodox Church commemorates 1000 years of his repose.
Prof. M. Bacci’s visit at St. Tikhon Orthodox University
Michele Bacci, professor of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, was hosted by our University from 6th to 9th May. Prof. Bacci’s visit was organized within the framework of a bilateral agreement signed by the two universities in 2007, and his realization was made possible thanks to the joint efforts of the International Relations Office, the faculty of Philology and the faculty of Sacred Arts, with the financial support of the Swiss Embassy in Moscow.

An official delegation from St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University visited Greece: an important step in the Academic relations between our countries.
Thanks to the initiative of the Theological faculty of the University Aristotle of Thessaloniki and of the Metropolis of Thessaloniki of the Church of Greece, the group of representatives of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University visited Thessaloniki from 18th to 21th February in order to develop a more intensive collaboration between our institution and the academic reality of modern Greece.

In 2014 two new organizations opened at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University –St.Tikhon-Serbia and St.Tikhon-Greece, whose aim is to help the development of a friendship between Orthodox countries. Within this framework, on 3rd February the joint efforts of the Department of International Relations, and the Centre for Education and Culture of St. Tikhon’s University, organized an event totally dedicated to Mount Athos.
XXV PSTGU Annual Conference of Theology finished its works
On the 5th February 2015 the XXV PSTGU Annual Conference of Theology finished its works. More than 250 lecturers took part in the event.
The Pedagogical faculty has played host to a series of lectures by our guest speaker, Professor Giacomo Ferrari.
In the frameworks of cooperation agreement between PSTGU and the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Italy) the Pedagogical Faculty held a series of guest lectures by Professor G.Ferrari devoted to the various aspects of education in Italy, the event was organised with the active participation and assistance of the Head of Department, Romance Philology PSTGU, M. Ju. Desyatova.
An unusual event took place in our campus
On Sunday 4th September students who are living and studying in PSTGU Campus in Pererva (Moscow), organized an interesting and unusual event for the new freshmen: “Pervokvest”, i.e. the quest of Pererva.
Students from Germany visit St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University
On September 16th a group German students visited St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University. The group was formed by students and professors of Theological faculties all around Germany, who came to Russia in order to took part in the International school of theology organized in the context of the forum “Piterburgsky dialog”.

On 12th September, in the conference room of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University, Michel Viegnes, professor of French literature at the University of Fribourg, held a lesson titled “How can cinema represent spirituality”.
Coming soon – Doubt and faith in French literature
In the context of the agreement between St. Tikhon Orthodox University and the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) Michel Viegnes, professor of French literature at the University of Fribourg, is coming as a visiting professor from 8th to 12th September 2014. Professor Viegnes is holding a three-day course about French literature during XIX and XX century for the students of St. Tikhon’s Faculty of Philology.
