A new Master’s degree is being offered at PSTGU: “Religious Aspects of Russian Culture in the 19th and Early 20th centuries”

The aim of the new program, which will be launched in September 2015, is that of fostering a deeper understanding of the role of the spiritual values and religious experience of Christianity and Orthodox in the history of Russian culture in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Workshop “Family in a Framework of Relational Sociology”

On 7-9 June there was a workshop “Family in a Framework of Relational Sociology” with Pierpaolo Donati, Professor of Sociology at the University of Bologna, organized by research laboratory “Sociology of Religion”.
On May 26th, a meeting of the Medieval Seminar was held on “The Burgundian nobleman in the ‘Russian Lands’. Two trips of Gilbert de Lannoy to Eastern Europe in the early 15th Century”

Within the framework of the project "The Church, Language, and Literature in the Middle Ages: Some main aspects", supported by the STOU Internal Development Fund, the regular meeting of the Medieval Seminar was held in the Department of Romance Philology.
On May 18th, an evening dedicated to William Shakespeare's tragedy "Macbeth" was held by the Theological faculty

Students and professors spoke about the history of the Shakespearean Question - the mystery of the identity of the Great Bard - as well as the real historical events unfolding during the action in the tragedy.

“Religion and Non-religion in contemporary societies” — 12th conference of ISORECEA

21-24 of April at University of Zadar, Croatia, the 12th conference of International Study of Religion in Eastern and Central Europe Association (ISORECEA) took place.
On April 16th, a meeting of the Medieval Seminar was held on “Imaginary Muscovy: the Russian state and Russians in 16th Century French literature.”
Dmitry Samotovinsky, a professor of ISUCT (Ivanovo), gave a lecture on the "discovery" of the Old World, including Muscovy.

The project gets support from state funds as a grant in accordance with the Presidential Decree of 01/04/2015 number 79-rp and on the basis of competition held by the Fund ISEPR.

Two Italian professors give a very special lecture at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University called “The Shroud of Turin: the meeting of faith and science”. At the start of the lecture, Monsignor Giuseppe Ghiberti and Prof. Pier Luigi Baima Bollone showed the audience a special documentary about the Shroud, and then told them a number of interesting facts about the Shroud.
ST. TIKHON ORTHODOX UNIVERSITY invites students to the course: Russian as a foreign language
The course lasts three months (72 hours), and it is divided into 3 blocks: grammar (24 hours); conversation (24 hours); spelling and punctuation (24 hours). The program’s target is the development of all kind of communicative skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
A group of pilgrims from Martinique visits holy places in Russia
On the 19th of October Orthodox pilgrims from the island of Martinique (France) arrived in Russia by the invitation of the Department of Missionary work to visit different holy places of our land.
Conference and workshop of international research project “Young Adults and Religion in a Global Perspective”, 18 – 25 October, Abo Academy (Turku, Finland)
 18 – 25 October in the framework of the international research project “Young Adults and Religion in a Global Perspective” (YARG) the first conference and workshop took place. Researchers from all participating countries: Finland, Sweden, USA, Canada, Peru, Ghana, India, China, Israel, Turkey, Poland and Russia — gathered together in Turku, Finland to take part.

On the 24th of September 2015, the PSTGU Theology Department hosted a lecture by Dr. Assaad Elias Kattan, the head of the Department of Orthodox Theology at the Wilhelm University of Münster in Westphalia (Germany).
Moscow hosts a series of lectures by Professor Marco Bersanelli of the University of Milan (Italy).
Marco Bersanelli, a well-known Italian astrophysicist, as well as a professor and the Director of the Doctoral School in Physics, Astrophysics and Applied Physics at the University of Milan, and the author of more than three hundred scientific publications, was hosted by our University from the 24th to 26th of September 2015.

The consecration of the Church of St. Vladimir was performed by His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia on the 26th of July
On the 26th of July, 2015, the consecration of a church dedicated to St. Vladimir the Equal-to-the-Apostles was held in the main building of Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University (PSTGU), located in the historical Diocesan House of Moscow on Likhov Pereulok. The consecration of the Church of St. Vladimir was performed by His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, in celebration of the 1000th anniversary of the blessed repose of St. Vladimir.
Continuing collaboration between Saint Tikhon’s University and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (USA)
On 19th of July, 2015 the Agreement between Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary (Pittsburgh, PA, USA) was prolonged.

On Sunday 26th July the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, Kirill, is going to attend the consecration of our new university Church, dedicated to St. Vladimir, the Enlightener of Rus: in 2015 the Russian Orthodox Church commemorates 1000 years of his repose.
Prof. M. Bacci’s visit at St. Tikhon Orthodox University
Michele Bacci, professor of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, was hosted by our University from 6th to 9th May. Prof. Bacci’s visit was organized within the framework of a bilateral agreement signed by the two universities in 2007, and his realization was made possible thanks to the joint efforts of the International Relations Office, the faculty of Philology and the faculty of Sacred Arts, with the financial support of the Swiss Embassy in Moscow.

An official delegation from St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University visited Greece: an important step in the Academic relations between our countries.
Thanks to the initiative of the Theological faculty of the University Aristotle of Thessaloniki and of the Metropolis of Thessaloniki of the Church of Greece, the group of representatives of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University visited Thessaloniki from 18th to 21th February in order to develop a more intensive collaboration between our institution and the academic reality of modern Greece.

In 2014 two new organizations opened at St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University –St.Tikhon-Serbia and St.Tikhon-Greece, whose aim is to help the development of a friendship between Orthodox countries. Within this framework, on 3rd February the joint efforts of the Department of International Relations, and the Centre for Education and Culture of St. Tikhon’s University, organized an event totally dedicated to Mount Athos.
XXV PSTGU Annual Conference of Theology finished its works
On the 5th February 2015 the XXV PSTGU Annual Conference of Theology finished its works. More than 250 lecturers took part in the event.
The Pedagogical faculty has played host to a series of lectures by our guest speaker, Professor Giacomo Ferrari.
In the frameworks of cooperation agreement between PSTGU and the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart (Italy) the Pedagogical Faculty held a series of guest lectures by Professor G.Ferrari devoted to the various aspects of education in Italy, the event was organised with the active participation and assistance of the Head of Department, Romance Philology PSTGU, M. Ju. Desyatova.
An unusual event took place in our campus
On Sunday 4th September students who are living and studying in PSTGU Campus in Pererva (Moscow), organized an interesting and unusual event for the new freshmen: “Pervokvest”, i.e. the quest of Pererva.

On September 16th a group German students visited St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University. The group was formed by students and professors of Theological faculties all around Germany, who came to Russia in order to took part in the International school of theology organized in the context of the forum “Piterburgsky dialog”.

On 12th September, in the conference room of St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University, Michel Viegnes, professor of French literature at the University of Fribourg, held a lesson titled “How can cinema represent spirituality”.
Coming soon – Doubt and faith in French literature
In the context of the agreement between St. Tikhon Orthodox University and the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) Michel Viegnes, professor of French literature at the University of Fribourg, is coming as a visiting professor from 8th to 12th September 2014. Professor Viegnes is holding a three-day course about French literature during XIX and XX century for the students of St. Tikhon’s Faculty of Philology.

The 13th All-Diaspora Russia Orthodox Youth Conference took place on June 27th in San Francisco, USA. The conference, which was titled “In the Footsteps of St John of Shanghai,” drew young people from all over the world
The opening of the new club “PSTGU-Serbia” took place on 16th May at St. Tikhon’s University
On 16th May 2014, in the Conference Room of the St. Tikhon Orthodox University in Moscow was inaugurated the club for the friendship among Russia and Serbia “PSTGU-Serbia”, whose birth has been made possible by the effort of the office for International Relations on the basis of the long-lasting relations the University has with several Serbian academic and cultural institutions.

The new club “PSTGU-Serbia” will be inaugurated tomorrow, 16 May 2014, at 17.00 in the Conference Room of the St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University. During the evening prof. Feodor Albrecht, dean of the Philological Faculty, and prof. Adriana Voronova, teacher of Sacred Arts, are expected to hold a brief lesson about Serbian contemporary culture. Delegates from the Serb Embassy in Moscow are expected to come.

From 18th to 21st February the traditional student conference organized by the St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University and the Humboldt Universität (Berlin, Germany) took place in Moscow, in cooperation with the Moscow State University M. Lomonosov (MGU) and the Moscow Spiritual Academy (MDA). The German House for Science and Innovation in Moscow (DWHI) supported the event financially.
The light of martyrs shines in Siberia once again
On 28th February, in the lower church of the Trinity Cathedral in Kemerovo (Siberia), the exhibition “The light shines in the darkness - The witness of the Russian Orthodox Church during the years of the Soviet persecution” was inaugurated, as wished by the metropolitan of Kemerovo and Prokopev, the bishop Aristarkh.
Two students from the St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University went to India for a one-month mission
From 23rd December 2013 to 29th January 2014 Moisej Khalchenya and Dmitry Erega, students at the St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University, went to India with the blessing of the Archbishop of Egorevsk, Mark, together with a group of missionaries lead by Georgy Maksimov, deacon. The travel aimed at helping the Orthodox communities in the state of Goa, West India.
The St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University opened its doors to new students

On 9th February 2014, the St. Tikhon’s Orthodox University organized its annual Open Day, where future freshmen got acquainted with the offer of one of the most important Orthodox institutions of Higher Education in Russia, for thirty years now successfully joining both secular and religious teaching.
