Impressions of Fourth-Year Modern Languages Students Anna Krashenninikova and Sophia Frolova About their Study Placement in Nottingham, UK
Our study program in England took place in fall of the 2018/19 academic year as part of an Erasmus exchange. We studied for a whole semester at the University of Nottingham, attending lectures and seminars. We took exams and at the end of the semester, we received a Certificate of Completion from the University. We lived in a local dormitory with students from all over the world who were on the same program as we were. Our neighbors were New Zealanders, Germans, Chileans, and Norwegians – an incredible experience of intercultural exchange! We practiced English and German with native speakers of the language and learned a huge amount about the traditions, way of life, and languages of our new friends, all of which was extremely interesting. We celebrated New Year´s together in the Russian style and talked about Orthodoxy. Everybody was really interested in what we had to say, since we were the first Russians that many of them had met in their lives. We became really good friends, and at the end of the exchange, everybody was saying that we were living like one big family – some of us really did get incredibly close to each other.
