Fr. Stephen Headley gives three lectures for students of the Philological Department
On the 5th of September, archpriest Stephen Headley gave three lectures for students of the Department of Germanic Philology. Fr. Stephen was born in the United States, graduated from St. Vladimir´s Seminary in New York and St. Sergius Institute in Paris, and he now serves at the parish of the Moscow Patriarchate in Vézelay, France. Fr. Stephen is also a scientist, anthropologist, author, and editor of several books and scientific publications. The topic of the first lecture was the history of early Christian monasticism. Fr. Stephen also spoke about his life and the Christian way. The next lecture was about the terminology of Orthodox asceticism, and a handout was provided with a proposed glossary of terms in Greek, Russian, and English. The third lecture was about the patristic teaching on tears and mourning from the Ladder of Divine Ascent, by St. John Climacus. His lectures sparked a lively response from the audience. These lectures were offered to students taking the course on English religious vocabulary, which is taught by A. Aksenov, Dean of the Faculty of Philology.
