Our students visited the internship program at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
From October 18th to November 3rd, Stefan Konyaev and Nadezhda Solovyova, both 4th-year students of the Theological Department, and archpriest Constantine Polskov, the vice-rector of academic affairs, visited the internship program at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. While in Pittsburgh, the participants had the opportunity to use the seminary library and attend all lectures and seminars. The students were given a tour around the city, where they also visited Carnegie University. During the internship, the students attended services at Saint Nicholas’ Church (Orthodox Church in America), and Saint George’s Church (Antiochian Orthodox Church).

The students also had a chance to meet and talk with the congregation of the Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Communication between the students and the parishioners took place exclusively in English. The students were allowed to directly observe the parish activities of various churches, experience aspects of American culture and daily life firsthand, clarify a number of issues concerning Presbyterian and Anglican theology, and get acquainted with a large number of different people and students.

Nadezhda Solovyova on her impressions: “We were greeted very cordially and everything was done to make us feel comfortable. We went to classes on history and participated in seminars on the course ‘The Church and the Sacraments.’ The conversations with seminary students were a great joy for us, and it was possible to speak freely with them on any subject - from politics to Russian literature. Our supervisor was prof. John Burgess, who has long and friendly relations with our university.”
