Week of Russian Literary Culture and Teaching
From March 6-10, 2017, a “Week of Russian Literary Culture and Methods of Teaching It in Schools” was held in the Faculty of Pedagogy of Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University of the Humanities. It was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Valentin Grigorievitch Rasputin (the famous Russian author – not to be confused with the spiritual guide of the Russian Imperial family). The event in question was a continuation of the tradition, begun by the Faculty in 2013, of holding weeks dedicated to different topics relating to the Russian language.
The “Week of Russian Literary Culture” began with an anniversary, namely, the 5th Academic and Practical Conference on Current Problems and Methods of Teaching Russian Literary Culture in Primary Schools in the Light of Orthodox Dogma. It was held on March 7 and consisted of undergraduates, graduate students, and young academics from the Faculty of Pedagogy of Saint Tikhon’s University.
Graduate students, masters’ students, and second- through fourth-year bachelors students from Saint Tikhon’s all took part in the conference proceedings. The topics of the presentations at the conference were related to questions of how to study and teach Russian language and literature at the primary-school level. A total of 17 presentations was given at the conference.
Students from all four years from the Faculty of Pedagogy at Saint Tikhon’s took part in a brain-training game called “Who’s the Most Literate?”, held on March 8. There was a jury consisting of teachers from the Faculty, including Sergei Vladimirovitch Feliksov and Antonina Vladimirovna Ageyeva. A team of students in their fourth year (Tatiana Gurina, Lyubov Kanidova, Olga Khrapova, and Anna Soldatenko) came out on top at the end of the event.
The “Week of Russian Literary Culture” ended on March 10 with a literary and musical evening, “Dialogue Across the Centuries on Faith and Fatherland: Alexis Constantinovitch Tolstoy and Valentin Grigorievitch Rasputin”. As part of the event in question, students from the Faculties of Pedagogy, Philology (Modern Languages and Linguistics), History, and Sociology at Saint Tikhon’s Universities delivered presentations. The evening of literature and music-making was attended by the Deputy Chair of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Primary School Teaching Methodology (PIMNO), Professor Svetlana Iurievna Divnogortseva, who holds a Doctorate – the most prestigious degree awarded in the Russian university system – in Pedagogy.
