Saint Tikhons University delegation visits Milan

From April 26-27, 2017, a working group from Saint Tikhons University visited the Catholic University of Milan (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore). The program of events included seminars, presentations, and discussions. The collaboration between Saint Tikhons Univeristy and the Catholic University of Milan has been developing since 2007. Over the course of the past decade, several series of guest lectures, and exchanges of undergraduates and post-graduates, have taken place. Five summer schools on language, literature, and culture have been conducted.

Maria Desyatova, Head of Department of Romance Languages at Saint Tikhons, gave a public lecture during the working visit. Her lecture on Linsegnamento dellitaliano ad apprendenti russofoni (Teaching Italian to Russian Students) was addressed to fellow teachers of Italian and to Masters students. Ms. Desyatova discussed the system of preparation for language learning in the area of Romance linguistics, about the experience she had gleaned, about the results, and the main difficulties encountered by Russian-speaking students learning foreign languages in general, and Italian in particular. In addition to this, the members of Saint Tikhons University gave a presentation that was attended by students of Russian from the University.
It was about the sixth Summer School organized through the joint efforts of teachers from both universities and dedicated to the Russian language, literature, culture, history, and the Orthodox spiritual tradition. The language school is to be conducted in July 2017 in Valdai Iversky Monastery.

On April 27, the delegation from Saint Tikhons made its way to the branch of the University in the city of Brescia, where its Faculty of Modern Languages is located, in order to take part in a conference on problems relating to upbringing, education, and the links between generations: Professional preparation, skills development, and dialogue between generations. Links between school, university, and subsequent professional life. Vladimir Shmelyov, Deputy Rector for Development and Innovation at Saint Tikhons University, gave an introductory speech and his greetings to the participants in the conference. Maria Desyatova also presented at the conference, emphasizing the importance of student exchanges not only for professional preparation, but also in order to build up friendly relations amongst people of different cultures.

It was nice to see all of you here again, Ms. Desyatova said in conclusion. It is with great delight that I look back on the past decade, which has indeed borne much fruit, above all the ability to find optimal solutions. At first, we had quite a few difficulties and a total lack of experience. In time we got to understand one another and now work smoothly together, achieving good results in teaching foreign languages to our students professionally. We are now looking to continue the festive events that we have become used to after a decade of working together. We are preparing to spend a full week with our Italian friends in May and June within the walls of our university. The week will be full of various events: we are planning to hold public lectures, discussions, roundtables, concerts, and, of course, friendly meetings and dinners.
