Call for papers for conference on Bl. Augustine of Hippo

On January 24, 2018, the Faculty of Theology at Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University of the Humanities will be holding an international academic conference on “Blessed Augustine of Hippo in Philosophical and Theological Cultural Dialogue Between East and West”.

The figure of Augustine of Hippo, the author of a body of texts that are considered authoritative by both Eastern and Western Christians, has been of crucial significance in the subsequent development of Christian theology and church life (Augustine exerted a substantial influence on both). The bishop’s compositions are a place where all notable intellectual, religious and literary influences on the Western and Eastern Christian traditions have intersected. Through their own example, these works give us a picture of how these traditions interacted and how they can be productively synthesized.

Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University of the Humanities is planning to host a conference where the main object of study and discussion will be the philosophical and theological legacy of Saint Augustine in contemporary intellectual and religious life, as well as historically.
