Saint Tikhons University celebrates 25th anniversary

On November 19, 2017, Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities held its Jubilee Festival in the Conciliar Chamber of the Universitys Main Building in Lihov Lane. Teachers, graduates, students, and guests were there to commemorate the Universitys 25th anniversary.

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the festival was led by the head of the Educational Committee of the Russian Orthodox Church, Bishop Eugene of Verea. The ceremony was attended by His Eminence Panteleimon, Vicar to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill; Sergei Kravtsov, the head of the Russian Federal Education Inspection Service; and by delegates from other theological schools and state entities.

There were also foreigns guests from embassies and international companies at the event, including: Fernando Pelazzo, the head of the representation of UBI Banca in Russia; Pascal Cauchy, the attaché for Academic Collaboration at the French Embassy in Moscow; Sergio Paini, employee of RAIs Moscow Office; Esther Machhein, a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Lector; O. V. Shor, deputy undersecretary of the Department for Parliamentary and Public Relations with Federal Subjects of Russia, and others.

The festival was opened by the head of Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities, the Very Reverend Archpriest Vladimir Vorobyov. His speech was dedicated to the history and development of Saint Tikhons Orthodox University of the Humanities. Nowadays the main building of Saint Tikhons University is situated in a special place, the historical Eparchy (Diocesan) House. The restoration of the Moscow Eparchy House and the church inside it dedicated to Prince Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostles was completed at the end of July 2015, Father Vladimir noted. It was here that the 1917-18 Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church took place, which resolved to restore the Patriarchate and by which Metropoltian Tikhon of Moscow and Kolomna was elected and consecrated as Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.

Many teachers and staff of the University had church awards and academic titles bestowed on them on this day.

The ceremony honouring the 25-year anniversary of the University concluded with a festive concert. The choir of the Faculty of Church Music and the collective student choir of the University performed for the guests.

At present, 53 of the Universitys educational programmes have received official accreditation: 26 Bachelors degrees, 17 Masters, eight Doctorates, and two undergraduate Majors in special secondary school education. Within these twenty-five years, 7500 students from all over Russia have studied at the University and received degrees.
