Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church visits Saint Tikhon’s University

On December 5, 2017, His Beatitude Anastasios, Archbishop of Tirana and All Albania, made an official visit to Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University of the Humanities.

The Primate of the Albanian Orthodox Church met with teachers and professors, clergy, and students of Saint Tikhon’s University. The Very Rev. Archpriest Vladimir Vorobyov greeted Archbishop Anastasios and his delegation, saying: “We all know how difficult life is in Albania these days for Orthodox people. We know of the terrible persecutions that the Albanian Church has suffered. In meeting you, we are coming face to face with a great champion of the Orthodox Faith, a defender of the interests of Orthodoxy all over the world. With all our hearts, we invoke God’s help upon you and your clergy, and on all Orthodox Albanians.” As a token of his special gratitude, Father Vladimir presented Archbishop Anastasios with an icon of Saint Tikhon.

“It is a particular joy for me to be here,” Archbishop Anastasios said. “I spent a significant part of my life as a Professor at the University of Athens, and I feel at home here. This place is particularly welcoming and agreeable for me.” He talked about the Albanian Orthodox Church and how it had been completely and utterly destroyed. It was only 25 years ago that it became possible to begin restoring the decimated church.

At the end of the event, Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania answered a few questions concerning missionary activities and parish life.
