Saint Tikhon's Researchers at 9th International Pokrov Readings in Finland
In Helsinki, Finland, the 9th International Pokrov Readings took place from 13-15 October, 2018, on the subject of “The Christian Monarch: Head of his People and Son of the Church. On the Centenary of the Martyrdom of the Imperial Passion-bearers”.

The Readings were organized by the representation of the Moscow Patriarchate in Finland. According to the established tradition, the Readings began with a service in the Holy Protection Church in Helsinki. The service was celebrated by Bishop John of Naro-Fominsk, who is in charge of the parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in the United States of America.

Over 20 academics, theologians, and diplomats from various countries worldwide gave presentations at the Readings. For the convenience of the audience, the texts of the papers were translated into Russian and Finnish, and the subsequent discussion took place with simultaneous translation.
Saint Tikhon´s Orthodox University of the Humanities was represented by the Rev. Doctor Alexander Mazyrin, an expert in Church History, and by researchers Andrei Kostryukov and Tatiana Shevchenko.

Over the course of the conference, academics and theologians gave papers in which they presented the results of research into the history of monarchy, individual figures, an examination of monarchy as a form of government, the influence of imperial rule on religious life, the development of the idea of autocracy in Russian literature and culture, questions relating to the canonization of the holy Imperial Passion-bearers by the Russian Church Abroad, and current questions of historical memory and the evaluation of events in the contemporary consciousness.
